I don't believe these figures. Who made this up ? This is what I call 'whaleshit'. If you know how many bulls fit in a whale you can make the calculation yourself I guess. I think there're at least 30% or more female entrepeneurs today. 25 years ago it might have been different maybe, but thanks to the internet the population of female entrepeneurs grows very fast.
see (in dutch) http://www.innovatiecentrum.be/index.php?action=showNieuws&titel=10&nieuws_id=113for an example of a recent project of Flemish Government to support female enterpreneurship. I do think that with Fientje Moerman as the Flemish minister for innovation and economy, female enterpreneurship in Flanders will get a boost. I wonder if those numbers are real. First it might be wise to define what one understands to be an entrepeneur.Next it seems that businesses run by women not only grow better they also have less chance of going under. So it might be better if government would stimulate more women to become entrepeneurs. It would keep the cost of bankruptcy for the taxpayer at a minimum.
Let me complete myself: Now this topic would be getting very interesting if someone knew a female entrepreneur willing to react to our testosterone-motored assumptions ...
May your wish boost female entrepreneurship ;)Marina AubertFrench female entrepreneur in Belgium!I complete:"I think there're at least 30% or more female entrepeneurs today"Not to my experience ...To me women restrein themself from become entrepreneur, seeing it as "dangerous" ... they simply think that it is not possible to be a good mother with being an entrepreneur ... which is absolutly false! And kids love to be proud of their active mum ;)
I think all the mums in the world are very entrepreneurs.
"If someone knew a female entrepreneur" ... that's an understatement with all respect. As I mentioned before, there is a vast potential there and they are outperforming men. In fact, women-owned businesses grew by 28% between 1997 and 2004, according to the Center for Women's Business Research. That's three times the growth rate for U.S. businesses overall. Figures taken from: http://www.businessweek.com/smallbiz/content/mar2006/sb20060306_311659.htm
A short research resulted in the following: “The UOB Global UNIFEM fund is an ethical fund that aims to achieve long-term capital appreciation by investing globally in companies that not only have excellent investment potential, but also more importantly demonstrated responsibility in its policies towards women…For the purposes of such investment policy, the Managers will avoid investing in companies, which have not shown a 'commitment' to the empowerment of women.”
Interesting topic. Women in business could still be scarce in business primarily because men historically have been not permitting them do so. Yet, they are undoing their historical disadvantage and in a rational society, men seem to have few advantages over women, au contraire one could say. Muscle strength is not important in business. Diplomacy, looking for win-win solutions, long term visions, these are factors where women are less handicapped than men. Pun intended and observe the expression “less handicapped” because they display less hormone driven behaviour, to state it extremely simple. If there would a be funds in an industry sector managed by women, investing there now would be a good long term strategy to fortune. In a civilized society, women have a definitive advantage and this will translate in long-term business success. Any funds I can invest in? :)
