Mexico
Clinging to a cliff high above the Sea of Zihuatanejo Bay, La Casa Que Canta is one of Mexico’s top-rated resorts, bestowed the ultimate honour by Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report as a Grand Award Winner. The 25-suite exclusive resort boasts two of the most elegant swimming pools found anywhere in the world: linger in the Freshwater Infinity Pool, overlooking the bay, and soak in stunning panoramic views of the sea and sky. The hotel also features a new spa, where guests enjoy luxurious treatments, and an excellent al fresco restaurant and bar.
Belize
As you sweep down the Blancaneaux Lodge’s hibiscus- and palm-lined drive, past the croquet lawn, you may get the sense you are in Beverly Hills. In fact, the lodge is owned by director Francis Ford Coppola. Spread on a hillside above the Privassion River, the villas with their high vaulted thatch ceilings, Japanese-style baths, and discreet porches overlooking the river have appeared in Architectural Digest. The filmmaker's own villa is available for BZ$900 (EUR 300) when he isn't there. A fleet of Land Rovers takes you to remote Mayan ruins or on shopping trips to Guatemala. you can come on a charter flight from Belize City or those with their own planes can fly into the resort's landing strip. The restaurant is one of the best in the Cayo, specializing in Italian dishes and serving wines from Coppola's wineries.
