It all depends on the market, the timing, the moment in the value creation process.
Certain markets do not like aggressive behavior, certain buyers do not like it either. Value most often is seeing what your client needs. And that takes endurance, to learn to understand clients and the market you are in. It takes timing, to be at the right place at the right time with the right product. Or what most of the time happens, keeping your hopes up, and keep going till you find the client, that can use your product, or understands its possibilities or is willing to try your product. Till that moment you need creativity to create a product. Vision to see that your product is needed. Communication to tell people that you have a product. Hard work to keep making your product better and better. And something else: luck, endurance, patience, indifference.

I don't know if others will agree, but I have found that intelligence is an overrated quality. Persistence and courage and aggressiveness are what is required to get ahead. It is not so attractive, but this is the truth in my experience.
