Being in the car, watching (low budget) television, or getting bored at a family party after having some drinks... it often appears to me that I’m dreaming about having found another whole in the market, a huge business opportunity. Most probably that moment of heroism will fastly dissappear after discussing it with some”dull” person without any fantasy or after a night of sobering sleep (what was I thinking about? why did I think that would work?). Nonetheless, sometimes crazy ideas do work (remember milliondollarhomepage?) and perhaps this is a good place to ventilate them and confront them to think-a-likes. Who knows what might grow out of it?

Hi all,

My advice is to write all your crazy ideas on your computer. Keep them in a separated file and put a date for every idea. Writing it down will prevent that you loose your idea and make sure you can add new ideas in the file or expand existing ideas. Also, it will keep you motivated and makes you hungry for more.

And then suddenly, ... there comes the time that you meet the right people, meet the courage inside of you and you'll get started into action as some above said. And while you develop you idea there's still the possability to change in the right direction.

Looking forward for more inspiration...

As someone who cannot shut off crazy ideas, I really enjoy this forum.
For the past 25 years I have helped monetize others’ crazy ideas as well as launched a few of my own. A frequent question I receive is “how do I know if my idea is the next hit product?”
For those like me, racing off to apply for a patent for your last big idea, take a moment to answer three key questions;
1. What problem does your idea solve? As is that problem urgent?
2. Is the problem pervasive?
3. Are consumers in the market willing to pay for your solution?
If you had a strong “yes” to all these, I will see you at the patent office!

If you would like to read more about how to take an idea and turn it into a business feel free to visit http://www.tunedinblog.com/page/tuned-in.html and click “how to create the next hit product”
We have spent the last 15 years interviewing successful entrepreneurs and we broke their process down into six common steps.
I hope this helps the community. Let me know your thoughts, and any difficulties you face in applying the six steps.

To start off, I'll share you my last one. Yesterday evening I was watchin a dvd ("The Prestige" = must-see!) and having lots of troubles with the dvd-remote control. Was I being awkward or are there just too many buttons on that device? I really doubt on how many people actually use the chapter numbers! Now, for all laid-back people in that dark-room situation or even for seniors, please make it usable and simplify those devices. Why not even make it really trendy and "Apple"-like. I'd put 5 buttons on it, max! And compatible to any dvd-brand. Ideas often come from frustrated people, but this is really p*ssing me off :-)

I would also like to share an Idea. Don't know if it is alreay out there, but it should be. We should have a web cam that allows you to see directly at the eyes of the person that you are talking to. With normal web cams if you want the otherperson to see you directly in the eyes then you have to look at the lens of the camara so you can't actually see each other eye to eye. I hated it when I was abroad and had to talk with my girlfriend without been able to see her directly at her eyes. What do you think?? I know that there are cameras/softwares that are used to read the movement of the eye to find out what a person is actually looking on a TV advertisment; so the technology is there although I don't like the idea of a laser following my eyes movement.

I understand your whish to have a "crazy start-up ideas". In fact, I was looking for one for more than 10 years, but since December 2006, I decided to try to make one of my idea come true. From there the diffuculties and problems started. People telling me that I'm crazy, the development going slower than expected, the finance going down faster that planned,... But I have no regret! We are still in the development phase, but I'm still convince that my idea will work. At least good enough to live from my work... and perhaps more!!! At least, my life is much more exciting today, and every day brings its new challenges...
So if one day you really believe you have a good idea, just do it :-)

Hi SwissCyberSafe,
that's great news! I, personally, am still in an initial and doubt-generating phase of development (research), but your story really gives hope. I'm eager to hear what exactly you've accomplished once day.

Some companies use the saying: "Talk less, do more". Let's start doing things! (with which I don't wan't to say that you can't talk here, but that there is a (small) time of preparation (depending on the business you're in) and a big chunck in doing, in creating and adapting to the market needs)

The strange thing with really ‘great whole in the market’ ideas is that there is little adapting needed. So if your idea is great according to you, and most people have a problem understanding it, which is the real reason they have a negative reaction, you might consider taking the idea and finding its core. For example the idea about simplification of remote controls will be understood easily by many people, but as it can be implemented in many ways in the end you could find yourself with a complex simplification.
As Tom Bogaert and before him Thomas Edison said: genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. And if you do not like perspiring, you better start selling your inspiration.

I walked by a neighbourhood café the other day, just around the corner from where I live, and there was the 'for rent' sign. In a flash I knew exactly what I could do with the place, the space, the location and even rated the possible turnover.
But I didn't make any calls or wrote anything down, because I have no access to capital what so ever. Well, as the old saying goes, you have to have money to get money...
Sometimes it's just sad to see great minds/great ideas for small businesses go to waste and to find out that capital rests with shrude but mentally ugly people.
Yes, I'm frustrated but that's doesn't stop me from starting up, again...

Heres how I see it.

It want cost you anything to talk with people, do some budgeting, write a business concept etc, you just put in your time, you can alwas back off if the pieces does not fall in place. The thing is, once you start talking to people, other contacts appear and before you know it, there will be a financing opportunity. But if you don't take that initial step and start talk to people suggesting solutions and asking questions, the idea will be just something inside your head, and that's too bad.

Hi there all. First off all I have to congratulate the one who created this forum, Crazy start-up ideas . That was genial. Everything starts in a crazy idea. That some one put the effort to make it real. Look at the wheel :). Let me share just one smalll and crazy idea. All of you heard about the marketing multilevel. I must say I believe in most cases its just a piramide scheme , ilegal to get some money from the believers. However I think that could be a great way to star a businessusing this kind of market mouth to mouth. The risk is the idea being stolled. But if you don't have the money , you will not make it come to live.
Help me on this, let's discuss how we can finance good ideas trhow a network of entrprepreuners.
Be Well :)

Hi APereira. You my like to take a look at this site: apsense.com They are using some kind of multilevel marketing to promote their site. Is like a business blog and bloggers get paid for the add in their pages but also for the people that they have invited to join the network. Interesting concept but doesnt seems to have a spirit.

But you might find this site more interesting: cambrianhouse.com. In this site people share their business idea, later they vote for the best idea and the winner idea is the one that they choose to build. Then people in this network with different skills would choose to work on the project to make it happen. Is like software outsourcing. Is actually a very interesting concept but you still have to share your idea and there is no guarantee that somebody wont just still it. The other problem is that you just have to wait for the selection process to find out if your idea was the winner or not while an entrepeneur should be much more proactive I think. Just take a look and let us know what do you think. Cheers.

It looks interesting, however as you can see I ride a bike or a fast sport car, I hate to waste time :) It looks that the decision process can take forever. It seems like the same thing as going to my bank with my new projects. To get them to answer, takes forever. The information that we now produce and the reaction to this information occurs 60 x then 10 years ago. We need to act, and make our crazy ideas (some of them not at all crazy) to work today. We need to find sponsors that can understand that. Business Angels are good but...
Thank you for the Information, I will keep working on it :).

Whether 'crazy' or not, you can win by doing one of two things: deliver the goods or services at the highest levels in a way no one else is doing;

OR

simply build a better mouse trap, do something unique and 'crazy'... unheard of and essential...

this is the most interesting form of entrepreneurialism...

more later :)

Crazy ideas are great, but beware of the idea-fetish some people are suffering. Art Fry, 3M's inventor of the post-it note reckoned that you would roughly need 3000 ideas before you discover one game-changing crazy idea like the post-it.

Crazy ideas are attractive, exciting and fun to explore and develop. Beware of the idea-fetish some people suffer: they keep walking through life with that one (often many times rejected) idea of theirs. Without being able to move on and look further. Art Fry, 3M's inventor of the post-it noted reckoned that one had to generate and go through roughly 3000 ideas before you may discover one game-changing idea like the post-it. If you get stuck, you may try to write down your idea, on a post-it or in a project definition (as you wish). Once the idea is on paper, you clear your mind and there is room for other ideas to come up.

Creativity in business will become more and more important to make a difference. Good news is that you can fairly easy learn how to be creative, if you want to. A lot is in your attitude.

The Dutch version

is more elaborate than the English one, but you need to start somewhere.

I work for Flanders DC, an organisation that promotes business creativity in Flanders (Belgium).

Just read these cool insights from Evan Williams - founder of Blogger and Twitter- about creativity and new ideas.
First, that genuinely new ideas are, well, accidentally stumbled upon rather than sought out; second, that new ideas are by definition hard to explain to others, because words can express only what is already known; and third, that good ideas seem obvious in retrospect.
So, having already had two accidental successes Mr Williams is now trying to make accidents a regular occurrence for his company, called Obvious. Interesting.
